Overview

Mandarin Palace Chinese Restaurant in Lismore offers a heartfelt dining experience, deeply rooted in classic Chinese flavors and a timeless atmosphere. Located at 151 Keen St, this local gem has stood resilient, reopening bravely after the devastating floods, embodying the community spirit and delivering dishes that comfort and satisfy.

The menu is a nostalgic journey, featuring staples like the Mandarin Palace Combination Chop Suey and Combination Chow Mein that echo traditional recipes with a fresh, home-cooked feel. Diners can delight in a variety of dim sum, spring rolls, wontons, and curry puffs, all staples that showcase their commitment to authentic tastes. The Chinese vegetable sides offer a refreshing balance, while standout mains like Satay Beef and Beef in Black Bean Sauce bring robust, layered flavors to the table.

The restaurant’s target audience seems broad but particularly appeals to locals and families looking for reliable, hearty Chinese fare reminiscent of classic country-town dining. The space itself presents a warm, modest setting—a reflection of Lismore’s resilient yet somber atmosphere in the aftermath of recent hardships. Service, while enthusiastic and sincere, sometimes shows the signs of a team gaining experience, but this earnestness adds to the charm rather than detracts.

Takeaway remains popular, with many patrons opting to enjoy the food at home. Though some items can arrive less crisp in containers, the flavor remains consistently good, capturing the essence of traditional Chinese cooking. The licensed venue also offers a small selection of beer and wine, complementing meals nicely for those dining in.

Overall, Mandarin Palace Chinese Restaurant provides a comforting and familiar taste of Chinese cuisine, perfect for those seeking nostalgia and quality ingredients in a welcoming environment. It’s a valuable dining choice in Lismore’s recovery, where community and cuisine come together with heart and flavor.

Bravely open again after the biggest flood in Lismore’s history… the food was just brilliant. Took home a doggie bag as there was plenty and had it for dinner the next night. Young ladies serving lacked a little experience, but were enthusiastic. I dined in with few others. A lot of people getting takeout. As you’d expect, the vib is still a bit somber after what Lismore has been through. Food was a little slow coming out but not excessively so. It is licensed. With a small variety of beer wine and soft drinks.

CLASSIC COUNTRY TOWN CHINESE. Dining here was like stepping back to my 90’s childhood. The food was very tasty, and the veggies used were fresh. The menu offered a lot of vegetarian and gluten free dishes also, if you are that way inclined. We had a table of 16 people and the staff had no issues making sure everything ordered went to the correct people.

Recovering from floods. Ordered some takeaway as per pics. Beef black bean lunch special and chicken wings. Quite expensive $27.00. The wings were soggy but due to being in a take away container. Beef had good flavour. Would love to eat in.
